I know there is already a yard of the month and business of the month program in place, but maybe if there were also a garden of the month it could open the doors for more sensible landscaping instead of strictly lawns and make it more OK to have a front yard full of plant life and for there to be some front yard vegetable gardens. Having visible vegetables really pulls people in to ask questions and get to know their neighbors and increase curiosity in healthy practices. And if there was a prize (even just the honor of having the sign in your yard) then there'd be less risk of these yards becoming an eyesore. If there was even a little online feature with a bio about the garden and the gardener it would give ideas to other gardeners and boost involvement. |
