Attracting Major Employers

Denton is home to major commercial manufacturers and distribution centers such as Peterbilt Motors, Target, Acme Brick, Sally Beauty Supply, and ALDI (among many others). The City would like to make sure that we are doing everything possible to attract major employers and commercial tax base to Denton but still provide high quality commercial areas with character and livability. Businesses typically locate and stay where they can provide their employees with an excellent quality of life (ex. schools, retail, entertainment, real estate, etc.) and in cities that are development/business friendly.

The City of Denton has a comprehensive plan that was adopted in May of 2000 called The Denton Plan. The Plan can be viewed online here. It was created through a collaborative process of public meetings and public input gathering that resulted in a vision for new development. This vision was established by citizens who took the time to participate in their city’s future with the help of professional City staff and elected and appointed officials. The Denton Plan covers numerous areas such as growth management, neighborhoods, streets, and economic development. Although The Denton Plan was developed to guide community growth until the year 2020, it is time to update the Plan to reflect issues considered important to life in Denton now and in years to come. This question was developed to gather valuable input on the topic presented to guide the update of The Denton Plan.
