I came from a community in Oklahoma, where the local jail had an inmate garden. It was much more nutritional food for the inmates, allowed them to get outside, get some fresh air/sunshine, be physically active, and cut down tremendously on the cost of food per day for each inmate. It also gave the inmates a sense of pride, accomplishment, and personal reflection; to watch things grow from a seedling, all due to the work of their own hands. Any excess veggies/fruit, can be donated to the local food bank/pantry.
